Move to CAUMONT sector and take over from unit of 2nd U.S. Armoured Division Regiment in support of 12 KRRC who were holding line. RHQ bombed at night with anti-personnel bombs 15 casualties.

Operation BLACKWATER started. Regiment led with "A" Company 12 KRRC on East route 8th Armoured Brigade (under command 43 Division) directed on CONDE-SUR-NOIREAU via LA QUESEL and LE PLESSIS GRIMOULT. Heavy opposition met level with MONT PINCON. Enemy counter attacks on right flank against 12 KRRC and ourselves dealt with.

Regiment (less "C" Squadron staying with 43 Division) rejoined 69 Brigade (50 Division) LE PLESSIS GRIMOULT captured. With 231 Brigade captured ST PIERRE-LA-VIEILLE.

(0700 hrs) Our tanks crossed SEINE. First BRITISH armour to do so. First tanks on rafts. Close harbour to enemy on east bank. SEINE bridgehead extended with 130 Brigade.

Rejoined 8th Armoured Brigade preparatory to further drive on to secure crossing over SOMME at AMIENS. Followed 13/18th HUSSARS to BANJOU.

Regiment took lead of 8th Armoured Brigade on left route. Cleared GISORS and captured BEAUVAIS. Regiment covered over 60 miles today.

Moved up again to area South of AMIENS.

Crossed SOMME west of AMIENS without opposition. Opposition at VIGNACOURT and CANAPPLES cleared. Rejoined 8th Armoured Brigade. Concentrated north of DOULLENS after long fighting advance. (Regiment now in flying bomb country).
   
  3rd Sept - 4th Sept - 5th Sept
Regiment led 8th Armoured Brigade group (now with 50 Division) through ARRAS AND LOOS. Determined pocket of SS at HOUBLIN. 2 Squadrons with "A" company 12 KRRC liberated LILLE and given tremendous reception. Positions taken up blocking enemy escape routes southwest from LILLE.

Entered Belgium on moving under command of 69 Infantry Brigade (50 Division). Orders later changed and rejoined 8th Armoured Brigade.

With 'A' Company 12 KRRC. Regiment passed through bridgehead of the Guards at BEERINGEN over ALBERT CANAL (only quarter mile deep) and turned north west to OOSTHAM and engaged in heavy fighting with determined enemy.

A. I Echelon of Regiment were attacked by a "suicide" party of Germans who set out to destroy BEERINGEN BRIDGE, 13 lorries lost, but bridge remained in our hands intact.
   
  10th Sept - 13th Sept - 19th Sept
8th Armoured Brigade now under command of Guards Armoured Division and covering their left flank we moved to position north of BOURG-LEOPOLD. Attempt to enter town produced enemy reaction and loss of some tanks but enemy withdrew later, Guards Armoured Division obtained crossing over ESCOURT CANAL and Regiment remained with 8th Armoured Brigade in BOURG-LEOPOLD (Lt. Col. BYRON DSO left Regiment, handed over to Major GK BARKER.
   
  20th Sept
Regiment placed under command of 214 Brigade who as part of 43 Division followed Guards Armoured Division in drive North of HOLLAND to link up with airborne landings at EINDHOVEN, GRAVE, NIJMEGEN and ARNHEM.
   
  21st Sept
Guards reached NIJMEGEN and US troops had captured bridge over the WAAL.
   
  22nd Sept
Regiment with 214 Brigade after enlarging bridgehead over WAAL formed a mobile column and escorting DUKWS (Ducks) loaded up with supplies drove up to DRIEL on south bank river near ARNHEM in attempt to get supplies across to 1st British Airborne Division. Column reached DRIEL but "Ducks" could not cross.

HOCHEIDE & RISCHDEN to TRIPSRATH, the operation designed to pinch out GEILENKIRCHEN which Americans on our right would take. Attack very well prepared and successful in face of heavy enemy shelling (This is GERMANY).

NIJMEGEN to the MOOK area took part in the tremendous artillery barrage put down in support of 30 Corps attack on REICHWALD FOREST. Our shoot was in direct support of 214 Brigade (43 Division) and moved east through KRANENBURG and into action at MAATERHORN against determined enemy.

Supported 214 Brigade through to HAU and south to BERGHANSHOF and KIGSHOF and on to the escarpment feature overlooking GOCH being heavily shelled and determined resistance by enemy overcome by sheer weight of metal and hard fighting. While in same area supported 4 Somerset Light Infantry in successful attack on HAVERBOOM.

Support 147 Brigade (53 Division) in 25 Feb attack from GOCH on to WEEZE against resolute opposition by German paratroops and in face of bad roads and boggy but open country with anti-tank obstacles.

Operation against WEEZE continued & WEEZE captured. Enemy withdrew.
   
  2nd March - 3rd March
Continued follow-up of enemy south as advance guard to 8th Armoured Brigade column through WEEZE and on to KEVELAER. Day and night operations obstacles such as mines and craters met and self propelled fire. Finally reached GELDERN and with "B" Company KRRC made link-up with U.S. forces which had come up from JULICH and VENLO.

Supported 7 Royal Welsh Fusiliers (158 Brigade) in limited attack northeast from ISSUM towards ALPEN against German bridgehead over RHINE at WESEL.

In support of 51 Highland Division commenced crossing (D-Day for RHINE) opposite REES as soon as rafts were constructed, going into action in bridgehead over RHINE at BIENEN & SPELDORF in hard and close fighting. Supported 9 Canadian Brigade in successful attack on MILLINGEN.

With 43 Division and closely supported 214 Brigade in attacks at HUBERSHOF and in capture of MEGCHELEN.

Under command of 129 Brigade pushed north into Holland through SINDEREN and on to VARSSVELD against moderate opposition including mines and self propelled. Then in an all-night drive 25 miles though enemy infested country capturing HALLE RUURLO, BARCHEM & LOCHEM. Many prisoners taken.

With 129 Brigade Regiment in action west of HASSELUUNE at villages of FLECHEM, HALTE, VINNEN, WACHTUM & MOLBERGEN against quite considerable opposition.

After being switched to 3 (British) Division Regiment supported their Brigades in close and difficult but successful operation leading up to and including capture of south port of BREMEN involving action at LEESTE, BRINKUM, GR. MACKENSTEDT, ARSTEN, SUDWEHE to HABENHAUSEN and through BREMEN. Many prisoners taken.
   
  28th April - 3rd May - 5th May
Regiment under command 51 Division and supported their advance from AHAUSEN - STUKENBORSTEL to OTTERSTEDT and SUTTRUM and so on north to BREMERSHAVEN being in action again north of
BREMERVOERDE at EBERSDORF, BARCHEL, ORCHEL, WESTERBECK, BROSSENHAIN and LINTIG halting at LINTIG on 4 May and in action in support of leading troops of 154 Brigade (51 Division) right up to cessation of hostilities.

Regiment escorted 52 Division in triumphant entry into BREMERSHAVEN.
   
  12th May
Regiment took part in BREMERSHAVEN in 51 Highland Division Victory Parade before General Horrocks, G.O.C. 30 Corps.
